Exercise 4: Follow Up

After the meeting, take some time to document new information you learned. Record the date, the name of the person you spoke with, key messages they shared about the company or industry, additional people they suggested contacting, etc. Within 48 hours, send a thank you note (see example below). Most people enjoy helping others and giving insight. Appreciating their time and ideas will help to build a long lasting, constructive relationship.

NOTE: Handwritten notes (versus written on computer) add a personal touch and are acceptable thank you's for information interviews.
